It is common for factory knives to have different angles on each side of the blade — for example, 18° on one side and 21° on the other. The knife may still feel sharp, but the edge is not fully balanced or optimized.
Precision reprofiling carefully reshapes the existing bevels so both sides match — such as 18° on one side and 18° on the other — creating a more consistent apex and a purpose-built edge.
Unlike a standard sharpening that follows the existing edge, reprofiling requires controlled steel removal, precise angle management, and careful verification throughout the process. It takes significantly more time, patience, and technical judgment because the geometry itself is being engineered.
